Red Bull star Max Verstappen deservedly won the 2021 F1 world championship in a thriller at Abu Dhabi. Emotions ran high for the orange army after the Dutchman clinched his maiden title. However, it didn’t come easy for the Milton Keynes-based team. The Mercedes W-12 of Lewis Hamilton looked all set to clinch the 8th title for the F1 ace at one point.
The 24-year-old needed a miracle, and a controversial decision by race control to win the race on the very last lap.
Recently, the Red Bull ace burst into tears after watching his title-winning moment during an interview. It was surely a monumental achievement for the prodigy, considering that the stakes were higher than ever.
Max Verstappen tears up after watching post-race moments
In a recent interview with Olav Mol for Ziggo Sport, the Dutchman got emotional while revisiting his championship-winning moments. The clip shows him sitting beside his rear left tire after getting out of the car. It also included bits of his interaction with father Jos Verstappen and also the heartfelt interaction with Anthony Hamilton.
“Those are moments you are never going to forget in your life”, said Verstappen during the Interview as reported by the GP blog.
“Of course I was very happy with that victory at the time, but I can enjoy it more now than at the time.” added the 24-year old.
Max Verstappen started on pole in Abu Dhabi but Hamilton instantly took the lead of the race. However, a safety car incident towards the end gave him a second shot, and he managed to pull off a solid last lap to clinch his maiden title.
The Dutchman had a dream F1 season in 2021; he took 10 Grand Prix wins this season and finished on the podium a record 18 times.
He would look forward to defending his title in the upcoming 2022 season. With new regulations in place, the next season is surely going to be a thriller for sure. What are your predictions for the 2022 season?
