Lewis Hamilton to have two questions answered in the space of a week for new season

LEWIS HAMILTON has returned to the Mercedes garage ahead of their car launch on Friday.

Lewis Hamilton won’t have to wait much longer before he gets the answers he’s been looking for with the new 2022 F1 season on the horizon. The Mercedes driver undertook a self-imposed 56-day social media hiatus following the events of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Reports soon emerged that Hamilton was contemplating his future in F1 as a result of the controversial events from that race.

FIA race director Michael Masi has come under increasing pressure for his role as he failed to follow the Safety Car rules in getting the race restarted for a final-lap shoot-out between Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

Hamilton described the final-lap fiasco as being “manipulated” and has stayed silent on the matter ever since.

The FIA confirmed last month that their investigation into the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was underway with Masi’s future as race director set to be reviewed.

An announcement was expected to come on Monday at the F1 Commission, but Mohammed Ben Sulayem confirmed after the meeting that there was a delay.

The FIA president said “analysis is still going on” but he did announce a decision was imminent.

It’s been suggested that Hamilton wants part of the outcome of the Abu Dhabi inquiry to be that Masi is either replaced or given more support in his role as race director.

And it appears as though Hamilton won’t have to wait much longer to find out whether the FIA will give him what he reportedly wants.

Another question Hamilton will want answered before the F1 season starts is how competitive Mercedes are expected to be this season.

The reigning eight-time Constructors’ Champions will unveil their W13 on Friday with the British racing superstar attending the car launch.

They will then be expected to undergo a shakedown test, although they opted against doing a customary 100-km filming day last year.

Even if Mercedes opt against a shakedown test again, the pre-season testing gets underway in Barcelona next week.

It will be the first chance for all F1 drivers to get a full understanding of their own cars, along with their rivals.

Red Bull appear confident that they will once again be running at the front of the grid as Verstappen bids to defend his title.

And Hamilton will certainly want a car capable of challenging for a championship once again following his heartbreaking defeat last year.
